A hot tub is a very large investment.  In order to ensure that you are purchasing a hot tub of the highest quality, you need to be informed about the various parts that are included in a luxurious spa.  It is important to be educated about the mechanical makeup of a hot tub, in case you were to experience any problems with the spa later down the road.  You will be able to determine the problem without having to call a specialist in some cases.  Even if you have a warranty, knowing the definition of each part will be beneficial at a later date.   

The jets that are built into the hot tub help spread the water in a concentrated line.  There are some jets that are manufactured to massage the entire body.  Jet flow rate can be changed depending what type of massage you want. Stress and tension can melt away when you use the jets for a hydro massage. Most hot tubs come with two jets per seat unless you specify a higher amount for your requirement.  If you decide that you want more, then you will have to reconsider your plumbing in order to accommodate the change.  Replacement jets will vary in price from a few dollars to hundreds of dollars, depending on how extravagant the part is.  The most obvious use for the jets is to massage the body in a therapeutic way.  Without the jets, the hot tub would be a simple pool of water without any motion or relaxation aspects.   

Another very important part in the hot tub is the heater.  The heater is used to help warm the water so that the user is not cold.  It is like sitting in a natural medicinal hot spring soothing the body when the heater is set correctly. Heaters come both electric and gas powered.  Electric heaters are the most common in hot tubs sold today.  However, both options are great for heating the water.  The hot tub heater works like a regular house heater.  There is a sensor which is able to maintain the temperature level the user chooses and can be set to the desired temperature.  If your hot tub is fairly new, then it will have an electronic temperature stat on the top rim of the hot tub.  The manufacturers of hot tub heaters are reacting to our changing society by making models that are energy efficient.   

The water pump and motor is another vital part of the hot tub system.  These parts develop the power in order for the jets to deliver the correct amount of water for your massage.  The hot tub motor helps power the water pump, which in turn pushes the water through the jets and into the tub.  If one part stops working, then the entire hot tub no longer functions correctly.  Most pumps have two speed settings.  Depending on how much pressure you want coming out of the jets, you can adjust it with the water pump speed.  The slower the pressure, the more money you will save on the electricity bill.   

When shopping for your hot tub, your budget and the location of the tub should be considered first.  If you are placing the tub in an outdoor area, then an exterior wall of natural wood is the best choice, which should be surrounding a spa made of an acrylic exterior tub.  If you are placing the hot tub on a deck, evaluate the water capacity and the size of the tub in relation to how much space you have on the deck.  If you live in a cooler atmosphere, then the plumbing will need to be considered as well.  An in-ground spa would be the best choice, because the pipes would have more insulation and protection from the frozen temperatures.   

The largest part of the hot tub is the shell.  It is made of fibreglass, and is the most critical part to investigate before buying your hot tub.  It is coated over with a smooth surface for a more comfortable feeling.  You can choose from a variety of colors and materials when you purchase your hot tub.  If the shell becomes damaged, it will cost a lot more than other replacement parts.  Make sure that you invest in a durable cover to prevent any damages occurring on the surface of the shell.  

As with any hot tub or pool there is a filtration system that helps remove debris or other unwanted items from the hot tub.  The filter is a very easy item to replace and the most affordable.  You can also choose from a manual or automatic fill line at the time of purchase, or you can have it modified at a later date.  This is incorporated within the pipe work of the hot tub which is another critical item of equipment. It is best to know the plumbing system of your hot tub in order to avoid leaks and somewhat costly repairs.
