Home Spa: Tips and Tricks

Do you have your own spa at home? If you do it is so exciting knowing that you can enjoy your little luxuries without hassle and turn the toughest of days upside down. You need a few luxury items like aromatic bath oils, moisturisers and spa salts on hand. If you have the time for a luxuriant bath then be nice to yourself and enjoy your moment of rejuvenation.

Preparation

A few items to have on hand are a soft fluffy cotton towel, your bath robe and slippers and one of your favourite cd with soothing music. Some other essentials are a soft washcloth, a bath brush and a loofah. Your cleansers, moisturisers and toners should also be on hand. Make yourself a cup of your favourite green tea (very good for you) and have a container of mineral water chilled and a touch of lime or lemon added.
Relax

Most people in the modern world are under stress in one way or another. Most of it comes from work and money problems. Your first job is to forget all this. Try to relax, think some wonderful thoughts like taking a far away vacation, dream of lying on white sand with the warmth of the sun radiating over your body and the sea lapping gently on the shore. Well anyway you get the message, just relax put on your favourite cd light a scented candle get into your soft bath robe, take a few deep slow breaths, take in the lovely fragrance or your warm scented candle and relax. (Did I say relax again) the whole point is to get rid of your cares and worries, for a short time anyway.

Essential oils

You do not need to use strong cleansers on your face. Mild concentrations are a must so not to harm your skin. Too many astringents are strong and they can damage your delicate skin. Choose your essential oils to compliment your mood; soothing oils to relax stress include sandalwood, lavender, jasmine and chamomile. If you feel you need energising then choose from rosemary juniper peppermint, eucalyptus? There are many other oils for these purpose but the ones chosen are some of the most popular for your home spa.
Essential oils are extremely good for your skin but should not be applied directly. Add a few drops to a bowel of warm water and apply it to your skin gently with a face cloth. Gently dry off after the application and finish off with an anti oxidant.

Body scrub and exfoliation.

Dead skin cells must be removed through a process called exfoliation. You should do exfoliation prior to entering your home spa. Gently rub your body with a sponge or soft brush. Using gentle circular motions will increase circulation and help remove excess water and toxins. Another little tip for removing dead skin is the use of exfoliating bath salts or sea salts mixed with water and about 12 drops of your favourite essential oil. Mix and apply the paste to your body. Using your sponge make large circular motions and rub over your body. This will remove dead skin cells and cleans the pores. Dead skin cells may block the minerals in the bath oils and even the bath salts from being absorbed by the skin. You should do exfoliation on a regular basis; this is to prevent the accumulation of dead skin cells and blocking of pores.

Your bath

Fill your bath with warm to hot water whichever is most tolerable to you. Add a couple of drops of your favourite essential oil and some bath salts. If you have a pillow suitable for use in the bath great, if not place a pillow into a plastic bag and then cover that with another pillowcase. Take your bath and drift off to that world of relaxation. When you have had enough of your home spa (you should know when all of the stress has been removed) you do not need to rinse immediately. You want the minerals to be absorbed by your skin, thus you are only allowed to towel off the water and not to totally wipe off the minerals. Your skin can absorb the bath oils and the minerals for 2-3 hours after taking a bath.

After a while take a warm shower, dry off with your soft towel and climb back into your dressing gown. Do not be in a rush just take your time. You can replenish lost skin moisture by taking a daily dose of flaxseed oil twice per day.

Skin care

Now that your body is taken care of you can now be gentler with your face. The skin on your face is thinner and needs a more gentle touch. Apply your favourite cleanser to a washcloth and rinse thoroughly with warm water. Apply a firming cream to the face and then places some ice cubes in a bag and gently apply it to your face, especially around the eye area.

From the inside.

It's lovely to have your home spa but you must also work on the inside of your body. Some things that are a must are to drink plenty of water every day. Do not wait until you are thirsty as by then you are already dehydrating. You should be eating large quantities of fresh vegetables and fruit, around 70% of your diet should consist of these. Supplement this with some grains, proteins some starches like potato and some nuts.

Breathing correctly can also greatly enhance your body. Do this exercise three times per day. Breathe in deeply through your nose. Count how many seconds it takes. Say it takes 4 seconds then you should hold in the breath to allow the oxygen to be taken into your body. This should be held for four times the length of your breathing in. I.E. If it takes four second to breathe in then hold your breath for 16 seconds. Then breathe out through your mouth slowly to twice as slow as when breathing in. that should be 8 seconds in this instance. This breathing out allows any toxins to be released from within your body. You should repeat this 10 times.

Your own home spa experience should leave you relaxed, rejuvenated and ready for anything. You should cherish these moments and pencil them into your schedule on a regular basis.
